Dear Mr. Blachford,
12.07.2001
This has reference to your E mail dated 9.7.2001 addressed to International
business which has been redirected to me for reply. We are pleased to note
that you have purchased a second hand Enfield 350cc Bullet Motorcycle for
your use there.
Till November 1998 we were fitting 6" Single Lead Front Fork in our 350cc
motorcycles. Subsequently, when we shifted to 7" Twin Lead Front Brake
System, the need arose for strengthening the LH fork end (LH fork end as
seen as rider sitting on bike) to take care of the increased impact due to
bigger brakes. We hence wish to clarify that cracking of fork leg is not a
problem in our motorcycles and we have taken adequate precaution when bigger
brakes were fitted.
It will be interesting if you can kindly help us to get copies of article/
photos of the broken fork legs of the bike that you had seen in the club
magazine.
Regarding your apprehension about a possible crack in the right fork leg in
your motorcycle, (not sure which fork end is referred to. If this is viewed
as rider standing in front of the bike then it is LH fork end as mentioned
by me.) we are surprised that there appears to be a crack however as a
gesture of goodwill, we wish to send a pair of fork legs LH & RH to you on
Free of Charge and freight prepaid basis. We hence request your complete
address with nearest airport details. These fork legs will be fitted with
the fork oil seals. You can assemble the fork legs after removing the front
wheel, fender and after removing the bottom cap nut on the fork ends.
After receiving the fork ends and after fitting the same on your motorcycle,
we would appreciate if you can courier the removed fork ends to us on
freight prepaid basis, for a critical examination and analysis. Our address
is given below for your reference.
We thank you for your valuable feedback and look forward to receiving your
address details
Kind regards

Subject: Bullet front forks
dear sir,
For the last 2 years I have been riding an Enfield (India)
350cc
Bullet. It was built in 1996 and exported to Germany by a young
Doctor doing
a practical in India. I bought it in 1998 and after several problems
with
the German beurocracy I eventually got it registered. The main
problem was
noise; I had to fit the silencer from the 500 Bullet before it was
acceptable. I only ride for fun and still only have 1685 Kilometers
on the
Speedo, but I must admit I enjoy my short trips through the Eifel
mountains
(where I live).
The reason for my writing is that I am a member of the
German
"Classic British Bike Club" as I also have a BSA and a Triumph. In
the club
magazine I read an article from a member who had a front fork leg
break in
half (luckily as he parked in his garage). Included were photos of
the
broken leg and the replacement. It would seem this is a known
problem as the
replacement leg is strengthened. I have checked my machine and the
right
hand leg appears to be cracking, and that with so few Kilometers on
the
clock. Do you have an exchange service for these, obviously
defective design
parts?
regards
Stan Blachford
