In the timing
case
Despite current fashion we do not
believe in any lightening of the
cam wheels or idler gear. Skimming
the thickness of the wheels may
save a fraction of a horsepower by
having a smaller tooth contact area
but a small contact area would
soon lead to backlash on the gears
and so the cam timing would be
seriously affected. Full width and
full weight wheels (and that means
no holes drilled through) have an
advantage in that the flywheel
effect acts as a shock absorber
to the cam-gear and for this reason
alone are worth leaving in their
original state.
