ENQUIRY: TRIUMPH T 100 SC MOTORCYCLE IN SADF USE
Thank you for your query of 29 November 2009. The South African Defence Force (SADF) purchased 122 Triumph Tiger 100 (T100SC), 500cc motorcycles. These 1965 models had 1966 frame numbers and were delivered to the port of Durban, South Africa, in 1966.
They were used by despatch riders of the South African Signal Corps as well as the military police. We have one poor photograph dated about 1968 of three Triumphs in poor condition at a military base. The South African National Defence Force Documentation Centre holds the copyright for this photograph with the reference number 831-2039. This photograph can be obtained by emailing them at sandfdoc@mweb.co.za We found one other photograph of a despatch rider on a Triumph Tiger in the August 1970 edition of the SADF magazine Commando.
From 1964 until 1976, the standard SADF paint colour for non operational vehicles was ‘Paint PFU Enamel Synthetic Olive Drab’ (gloss). This colour can be purchased from any good paint shop by asking for colour No 298 of British Standard 381C of 1964. Unfortunately we do not have the SADF registration numbers for these 122 motorcycles. We would be most pleased if you could send this Museum any further information you may have.
These Triumph Tiger motorcycles were replaced from 1976 by Honda CB 350-F motorcycles. The old Triumphs were stored and sold on public auction between 1989 and 1993. Much SADF equipment was sold after the military withdrew from Namibia and the SADF was down-sized.
Yours sincerely Maj J L Keene
Danke für die Hinweise, so konnte ich endlich das Rätsel um meine SC aus SAF lösen!
Ach ja. Waren denn bei euch auch 7:1 verdichtende Kolben drin?
Gruß, Martin
